September Is PAD Awareness Month

September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month! PAD is a chronic circulatory condition, which if left untreated can result in unnecessary limb amputations. PAD affects nearly 20 million Americans, and an estimated 200,000 of them – disproportionately from minorities communities – suffer avoidable amputations every year.

By increasing PAD awareness nationally, the CVC hopes to improve access to PAD screening and treatments, which is shown to improve quality of life, reduce care costs and prevent limb loss.

In recognition of PAD Awareness Month, the CardioVascular Coalition is urging advocates to ask CMS to stop proposed Medicare cuts to PAD treatments.

Continuing with a decade long series of cuts to office-based interventionalists, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is proposing deep, across-the-board 20% payment cuts to revascularization services in the Proposed Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) Rule for CY2022.

If implemented in its current form, these cuts could drive office-based revascularization providers out of business and reduce Medicare beneficiary access to critical care services.

We need your help: CMS needs to hear from revascularization providers like you about our concerns regarding this drastic 20% cut before the comment period closes on September 13, 2021.
